I made some illustrations for calendar 2023 of a financial institution (Shizuoka Yaizu Shinyo Kinko) in my town.

Its theme is the diet of the first Shogun "Tokugawa Ieyasu" who unified Japan in the terrible war era and later made relatively long peaceful times under Edo shogunate.

He is well known for his long healthy life. He spent his later years in my local town, Shizuoka after his retirement and they say that the key to his health must be his simple diet with fresh local food. 

each page shows his favorite dish with unique poetic texts. 

Jan. & Feb.: とろろ汁　Tororo-jiru (Yam soup)

Mar. & Apr.: 興津鯛　Okitsu-dai (Sea bream)

May & June: 折戸茄子　Orido-nasu (Egg plant)

Jully & Aug.; 山葵　Wasabi

Sep. & Oct.: 安倍川餅　Rice with kinako (Soy bean flour)

Nov. & Dec.: 鰹節　Katsuobushi (dried bonito)
